Steph & Dom’s 1666 Aftermath Tasting Notes

NOSE

This gin gently tells you it’s a gin. It doesn’t say it too loudly but you know. It’s not harsh or sharp but soft, gentle and aromatic. It hints at what you’re expecting and so it should, but it’s a little shy on coming forward. It doesn’t want to scare you but it’s intriguing and teases a little. ‘Can I smell… I can. Is that… no surely not, how did they do that?”

PALATE

This in itself is a little journey. Waves of the flavours show themselves one after the other or are they all together? There’s the citrus or was it? Wait a little bit… Yes the hint of orange, but only a hint. Where’s the oak? That was it or was that the smoke. Oh very subtle. They’re all there and the usuals of course. Is this Gin? Are you sure? It tastes so different. Great combo. Lovely finish. I can do that again!”

OVERALL

It’s 40%. A respectable strength and fitting for purpose. Intrinsically designed to be drunk neat or in a cocktail. Pleasing, gentle and very kind.

SERVE

Enjoy neat to appreciate the full complexity, savor it on the rocks for a smooth, mellow sip, or mix it into the finest G&T you’ll ever taste—this gin is crafted to elevate every occasion. This gin also shines in cocktails, adding character and depth to a classic Negroni, a smoky Martini, or a bold gin Old Fashioned.

WITNESS THE SMOKEY LOUCHE

To louche or not to louche?

When gin gets cold, sometimes a soft cloudiness can appear, revealing the rich botanical oils within. This natural effect, known as ‘louching’, happens when essential oils from ingredients like juniper, citrus, and spices become suspended in the liquid.

It’s a sign of a gin packed with flavour, unlocking deeper aromas and a smooth, velvety texture as the spirit opens up. We specifically blended Aftermath to louche when poured over ice to give it a smokey appearance and to fully embrace the essence of oak, smoke & marmalade.

If you store Aftermath in a cold place it will louche slightly in the bottle, this is normal and visual proof of this effect. At room temperature it will remain clear.

The bottle on the right is freezing cold.
