Steph & Dom: Our Gin Story

IN SEARCH OF A GREAT SPIRIT MEMORY
In the right place at the right time a good G&T can create a long lasting memory. For example, Dom recalls very clearly the first gin his brother made him over 40 years ago – and it was gross, far too strong!
During our honeymoon somewhere deep the heart of Borneo, we had probably the best G&T of our lives whilst enjoying a breathtaking view as the sun was setting, sitting together around an oak firepit. Someone had put some oranges or orange peel into the fire and the combination of the oak, smoke, orange and the G&T created one of those memories.
We don’t recall the actual gin and it really is irrelevant as it was more about the combined taste on the tongue. For our 25th wedding anniversary we thought it would be fun to try and not only create our own gin but try and recreate that memory, through the flavour of the gin. We have succeeded. Whilst no one can ever know what exactly we tasted back then, we can assure you it’s pretty much bang on.
We’ve called it “The Aftermath” representing the time of The Great Fire of London. Back then London was mostly made of oak, and Gin and oranges were relatively new. We imagine that during the aftermath of the fire, London probably smelt and tasted a little like our gin! Well it’s got to have a name hasn’t it?
At Steph and Dom, we like to do things for real. In filming or photography we have always avoided scripts and let everything happen naturally and for real. The same applies to our Gin. For Aftermath, we have dictated and finely tuned the flavours. We chose the bottle from thousands of options, designed the label and did all the photography ourselves. Not easy, not only because we’re not professionals but particularly difficult when the label looks a different colour in different lights and the gin itself louches when cold.
This is us, all us and nothing but us and we know you will enjoy this unique experience.
Chin chin!
